The famous astronaut Leroy Chiao was commander of the International Space Station in 2005. During that time, he and his fellow Salizhan Sharipov were installing navigation antennas while in a spacewalk. They were 230 miles over Earth, moving at over 17,000 miles per hour when something Chiao spotted something rather mysterious.
Leroy Chiao’s colleague didn’t observe the strange sighting since he was facing the opposite direction.
“I saw some lights that seemed to be in a line and it was almost like an upside-down check mark, and I saw them fly by and thought it was awfully strange,” Chiao told The Huffington Post.
Chiao’s experience is visible in a video that NASA recreated. This video is going to launch “NASA’s Unexplained Files,” one of the various programs presented as part of Science Channel’s week-long “Are We Alone?” series.
What came next was of course, a reasonable explanation for the encounter. According to it, the astronaut, in fact, saw bright lights of a fishing boat, hundreds of miles beneath him. However, many people including himself weren’t that convinced.
People believe what Chiao saw was something that has a strong link with extraterrestrial presence. However, he said he is not that sure and he doesn’t want to claim anything without having proof.
“I’m skeptical of claims that we’ve been visited by aliens from another planet or other dimension, but I don’t rule it out 100 percent. I have an open mind and I do believe there’s another life in the universe,” said Leroy Chiao.
“If there is life out there that’s so much more advanced than we are and they know either how to travel great distances in short amounts of time, or they’re able to come from a parallel universe into ours, why don’t they just come and show themselves?”
“NASA’s Unexplained Files” episodes emphasize potential UFO sightings that astronauts captured throughout the years.
For example, during the 1972 Apollo 16 mission, allegedly there was a photographic evidence of a UFO. According to the account, the astronauts brought back several film canisters which depicted something that looked like a flying saucer just above the Moon’s surface.
